How To Breathe Life into an Ugly Room

This entire room is very dated and the scary part is it’s a home for sale right now in Waxhaw, NC. It can be a super cute reading room but need the right color and decor to make this room shine. Let me show you how I’d flip this room and give it an updated look.

Well of course you know I’m going to say add color right? Right. The first thing you see when you look at this room is the area rug. Is that a bad thing? Well yes and no. If the room had color on the walls, the area rug would or should be part of the decor plan, not the only element that really stands out.

Add this incredible rich jewel tone green to the room will instantly make it amazing. I’ve heard my clients say, “Won’t darker colors make the room look smaller?’ Well, perhaps but the right color will also make it look beautiful.

I’d soften the edges of this room by adding this creamy color to the trim and ceiling. Feel the room getting cozy already?

Add a rich Kravet fabric with a large pattern will add color and interest to this room. Can you see how gorgeous it will look against the green walls? I’d also add this camel color to the leading edge of the tray ceiling for balance.

Get rid of that very dated green lazy boy and add this brown Dautry leather chair, maybe even two, and climate Grandma’s sofa.

Add the right accessories, artwork and lighting and this room will grab the attention of anyone who walks in, especially people who are in the market to buy. However, you’ll need to carry this look into the rest of the home to complete.
