A Breath of Fresh Air and what a great name for Benjamin Moore’s color of the year for 2014! Let’s talk about this blue hue.
What is the most popular hue to have in the home? I think we all know it as Blue. Now blue comes in many shades, tones, values and any other fancy smanchy design jargon you want to say but it boils down to blue.
Let’s go a little Forest Gump here, light blue, dark blue, gray-blue, blue-gray, navy blue, pale blue, baby blue and the most popular coastal blue.
These are all really great colors and I’ve used all of them plus dozens more just like it however, I will give you a little warning about some of the lighter blues and Breath of Fresh Air does fall into this category as well. Nursery.
I’m not saying it’s a bad color but and this is a BIG BUT I know for a fact that when people see this color they see a very youthful blue. Is this a bad thing? No not at all! However, most of the time when people are looking for a blue for their home it’s for the living room, master bedroom, family room, dining room and once is a while it’s for a baby boy’s nursery.
I’ve been in dozens of homes where the client wanted a blue for their room and didn’t quite nail it. After all, how hard is it to pick a blue? Well, with so many blues to choose from, it can be a challenge.
Breath of Fresh Air is a great color and finally the Color of The Year is hue that we can actually have in our home and timelessly at that! So whether you need a crisp clean color for your living room, bedroom or even that nursery, Breath of Fresh Air is a winner and I give it a thumbs up.

Breath of Fresh air is absolutely awful. A nice blue to use is Ocean Breeze. How it made it to color of the year. I will never know.,
It looks like it would be good for a baby nursery or a beach cottage with lots of white beadboard. It has it’s place 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous color. I dressed a bedroom in this color with a pebble beach bedspread. The hues of aqua, coral with a light beige road made you feel like you were at the beach. Great soothing color…. in the same house I have used Guiliford green in the entrance foyer, Dark Linen in my office and Constellation in my kitchen all great colors for my happy place.
Sounds beautiful! I like this blue as well and I’m not a blue person lol – however, it does make me feel like I’m on a beach cottage when I see it and that’s a great feeling!
