What color should you paint your dining room? I know most people gravitate or consider a red dining room for some reason but look at all the other choices you have!
The dining room is the one space in the home where you can get a little creative when it comes to color. You can go a little darker, bolder or just try a color that you normally won’t have thought of. Why? Because most dining rooms don’t get used on a daily basis so it seems like it a room where you can add a unique color for those special occasions.
I love playing with the Paint Color Visualizer from Sherwin Williams. I probably spend a little too much time there just painting up rooms but it’s so much fun and a really great way to sample a color for you space.
Here are few colors I painted for a dining room for you to consider. They aren’t anything too crazy but certain colors that should be considered.
Blue is a very popular choice for the dining since most people are just in love with the hue. I find that my clients gravitate toward this blue or go right to navy. This is probably my #1 choice for a dining room color.
Dark brown is an exotic choice for a dining room and it looks stunning with white trim. See how the are rug really ties in with the wall color? Keep an eye out for that.
Green is another popular color choice but not as much as blue. Hues similar to this go well with most decor which makes it a safe choice for the dining room.
Gold. Not a very good choice at all. So many people are eliminating gold from their home. It’s just too much yellow to have in a room especially if you have “yellow” floors such as oak or maple. However, gold looks really pretty if you have black furniture. Again, look how nicely it ties in with the area rug.
A neutral is a good choice if you don’t have any furniture yet or have very colorful decor. Keeping the wall very basic is just a smart choice when you have most of your colors coming from your accessories.
And of course we have the ever so popular red dining room. People just love red dining rooms! Are they pretty? Yes. Is it difficult to tie in red with the rest of your home? Perhaps. I just don’t like getting blasted with such a strong hue when I first enter a home. I like strong, unique color but coming from Long Island, I still can’t get the Amityville Horror out of my mind when I see red rooms. Spoiled for life!
Yay for brown dining rooms!
I only did one brown dining room but it probably was my favorite. So rich and classy especially with the white trim.
Mt favorites are The Bracing Blue, Midnight and Shagreen..so lovely!
I like them all but the red.
They are all really beautiful…I am not a red person it has to be in small splashes for me 🙂
I love the darker colors, like the brown, for a very dramatic look. I did that once for a client and it was crazy beautiful! What color is your dining room?
I don’t have a formal dining room one end of my kitchen is like our dining room and it is a light blue we are going to be repainting and I want to go with a rich grape color or eggplant, kind of crazy I know 🙂
Crazy? Do you know who you’re talking to? LOL I love that! I actually have an eggplant front door and it’s pretty cool. Let me know what colors you’re thinking about. I’d love to see them.
LOL and I bet that is pretty! I sure will it will be after the first of the year 🙂
