This was a hard one for me! I’ve had wrap-around wall color and ceilings (venetian plaster) for the last 12 years. I recently went back to white (swiss coffee) for the ceilings. I am so much happier with the white! For so many years, I felt like I lived in a cave. I have big windows in the rooms, but the rooms always felt too closed in (the wall color was a medium tan). I had to keep the overhead lights on all day long. Since going back to white, I can leave the lights off in the house during the day and be okay with the wall color (which remained the same color as before). Most of the rooms in my house have 9 foot ceilings. The living room and entryway have 16 foot ceilings. WE had to add white crown molding over the entire perimeter of the ceiling throughout the house to hide the bad edges painting over the venetian plaster made, but I am so much happier with the choice to go back to white! Now if I could convince my husband to paint over the remaining venetian wall color to something more fun, I’d be a happy girl!
Well that’s ok Shellie. Sometimes you absolutely need a white ceiling. For example, if you have limited light in your home, small windows, heavy woodwork or are one of those people who need extra lightness and brightness year round then a crips white ceiling is the way to go.
Swiss Coffe is a nice white – not to stark. I actually like that choice for a ceiling if it had to be white.
I bet your home looks gorgeous and as long as you’re happy than that’s all that matters.
