Yea I know it’s not easy choosing paint colors for your home. I remember it took me two weeks just to choose my dining room color and I do this for a living! Right? Crazy I know. So anyway, let’s jump right in and talk about 5 signs that you possible chose the wrong paint color for your home.
1 – You look at your walls and cringe. Yea that’s a pretty big sign! As you were painting you’re looking at the color saying to yourself, “Oh it will dry lighter” but it didn’t did it? Too dark? Oops! Start turning on all the lights and opening the blinds. You just make your home a dungeon.
2 – The painting is complete but you look around and realize it does’t match anything in your home. But the blue looked so good in the paint store! What happened? Lighting happened. They have some crazy lighting in those stores and non of which will be in your home and no bulb can fix – well maybe 1,000 of them.
3 – You ran out of paint, go to the store to get more BUT … you had them make it 30% lighter because you thought it was a tad too dark. Problem is, your “30% lighter” doesn’t exist anywhere because it’s now a custom color. The chances of the paint associate getting it right is slim to none. Why? Because each color matching machine is calibrated differently and the skill of each Associate varies BIG time. You now have a few shades of your paint color on your wall because of poor color matching.
4 – You always feel uneasy when you look at the color. Yes this goes right back to the Holistic appeal of color that you’ve heard me mention here 1,000 times. Does your color have a wee bit too much energy? That gray brining you down? Yes. Color does that.
5 – You followed the trends. Yea but your neighbor just chose the most popular gray in her home and she loves it? Perhaps your neighbor does not suffer from depression. Gray can be such an enemy in the home if you have mood swings! It’s like wearing bright red to a funeral, you just don’t do it.
So you see, when it comes to choosing the RIGHT colors for your home, so many factors come into play. It’s time-consuming and expensive to tackle this on your own if you’re not sure.
