Why? If you live in the Northern Meteorological Season, you have just started the spring season. Each season represents an element. Now we start the season of wood and should start brining in these colors and textures into the home.
Not a fan of brown? Keep in mind that wood comes in many colors, not just brown. Think of lightness of Beech to the deep dark, rich reds of Mahogany. There are also some amazing dark, rich coffee browns that can be found in just about any paint deck.
The Wood Element: In Chinese medicine the Wood Element represents the liver and gallbladder. Think of what these two organs do.
Liver: “The liver’s main role is in the processing of the products of digestion into substances useful to the body. It also neutralizes harmful substances in the blood, secretes bile for the digestion of fats, synthesizes plasma proteins, and stores glycogen and some minerals and vitamins. It was anciently supposed to be the seat of love and violent emotion.”
Knowing what the liver does, how do you think this relates to the body? The wood element within us governs our emotions, especially anger and frustration. When unbalanced we’ll be prone to shouting and throwing tantrums like little children when our plans don’t go our way. When in balance we’ll have a tendency to more easily go with the flow and find plan B to work out our issues.
Now the gallbladder works with the liver in the storage of bile and aids in the digestion of fats. When this is not working well, hello gallstones! When this is out of balance we live through tunnel vision, only seeing a small part of what really is. This affects our judgment and self-esteem. When in balance we have the confidence to move forward with our plans as we envisioned them.
How does all this fit into spring? By growing new ideas with a fresh mind, clean start and the motivation is live life on a new canvas much like all the new growth that comes alive in spring.
Start your day with morning walks to energize you, liven your senses and to start the day on a positive note.
This new-found energy also comes in the form of spring cleaning and spring home improvements which is great to move the energy around your home. Here, you certainly can start with a new paint scheme or begin to bring in the wood element into your home with awesome texture as reminder of what you learned here today.
