It’s Color Q&A Time!

I thought it’d be fun to have a little Q&A time. Do you have questions about color?

Color placement? Trends?

    Hi Donna,

I painted my entire house Olympus White (SW) and i feel like i’m lost when it comes to decorating for the color I chose. we have blond maple wooden floors, and kitchen cabinets. I would love to add some grays, white, creams and black to the room, but don’t know how. I’m beginning to think maybe I chose the wrong color. The house was previously a tan, leather brown color throughout and I could not spend another day looking at that disgusting color! What do you suggest for LR/DR/Kitchen that is all connected? I love the coolness and serenity of this color, but think I may need to break it up a bit.

Jules, because of the warmness of your flooring, I’d definitely bring in some warm tones. The white you choose is cool and your woods are warm so you’re on opposite sides of the color spectrum here. Try painting some adjoining rooms 7064, 9166 and 7015 to warm the house up a bit. You can choose just about any color for your decor and accessories but keep it consistent throughout the house. Hope this helps!

Thank you, Donna. Your reply makes a lot of sense. I am worried though, because the flow of our townhouse doesn’t have a break in the continuous flow of walls and hallways. There’s a long hallway from the entrance, that flows upstairs, downstairs and into the living room with 14′ ceilings. I wish you could see it! The dining/kitchen are separated by distinct entrances and I love the look of 9166 for those rooms, I may even white wash the floors and paint the kitchen cabinets white to bring it together.

Can you add color to archways? Columns? Pick a few walls that stand alone and choose one of your off whites there.
