When it comes to choosing flooring in your home, color plays a HUGE role here as well. Here I’m going to show you what I chose for my home and this was not an easy process.

How does a color expert choose flooring for her home? Carefully!
The easiest part of choosing flooring for my home was that I knew what I didn’t want. I didn’t want wood, engineered wood, ceramic, laminate, bamboo or cork. What was left? Vinyl plank flooring.
I have four cats and an art studio so this product was a no brainer for me. I needed a flooring that would not easily scratch, stain or fade in the sun. Vinyl plank, SmartCore, was the answer.
Here I have a picture of my dining room which had very specific colors. I chose this color flooring (name escapes me) because of the color variation. It was dark, light and medium-toned all in one. It wasn’t orange like so many engineered floorings like the standard Gunstock that so many builders use in the homes and there are no grout lines to collect dirt and turn stain over the years.
I knew I didn’t want gray flooring and one of my neighbors chose that color for their home. It was a very light gray but they had white cabinets and gray walls so a darker flooring color would not look right.
I have it professionally installed and the money I saved from this flooring that went right over existing tile and wood, was so worth it!
It’s easy to clean and I love the semi-rustic feel of the wood grain. Sure no flooring is perfect but this one, I love and admire it every day.
See how it ties in with the mural, wood tones, decor and even my cat on the right? See him? He blends right in lol.
I’ll tell you though, it was a challenge to pick a flooring color that tied in ALL the colors in my home, my art, my decor, sofa and wall color. Luckily, the entire color palette of my home … is pretty darn amazing if I do say so myself 🙂 Don’t you think?
I think it looks amazing. Your room is beautiful, too. I know you probably painted that mural, it’s so beautiful.
Yes, I painted that mural years ago when we first moved in 2007. The colors around my home are based around that. Thank you Jaime!
