What Color Should I Paint My Historic Home?

Oh, I love doing this type of color consult and I’ve done so many! It’s so important to keep the age and style of the home in mind when deciding on your colors yet keeping it unique from all the rest. Let look at this gorgeous option.

Color For Historic Homes

The color that stands out to me right off the bat is the gold. Gold? Yes and I place this color on the door and on the ceiling. Most porches have the typical light sky blue so why would you want your home to be typical and like everyone else’s? I know many of you are saying, “oh the but light blue looks like the sky” and you’re right. What else is in the sky? The sun. What color is it? Gold. With just a little shift of thought, you now have a unique color on your ceiling and you know why. Let it shine.

Darker blues as shown here, are always classic. They can range from nautical blue to just a classic Federal blue which is perfect for a historic home.

I would most definitely shy away from any stark white on a historic home and in its place, use a soft, creamy ivory. It’s like white is all grown up and aged well.

Don’t you just love to know why I chose the colors I do? Well there you have it. Colors shouldn’t just be pulled out of a hat or chosen because they are popular. They need to feel good and agree with the house. I think all these colors work well today for this 1980 Inn.
