What are sexy colors anyway? Are they the reds of Valentine’s Day? Are they seductive purples? How about pink? Sexy colors are a FEELING, a combination of colors that bring a smile to your face. Those colors are the ones that trigger pleasant memories of your past, and present. Let’s look.

How did I come up with the colors for this post? I thought to myself, what if I were to redesign my bedroom over, which colors would I choose?

Green is my favorite color so it would have to be in there somewhere. I like soft, silvery sage greens. Green, as you may know, represents the color of the Heart Chakra, and what better color to have in the bedroom than the color that represents love. I’d use the green I have above for an overall wall color.

Red is probably the first color people would think about for a sexy bedroom color and of course, for Valentine’s day. This is true but for me, red would be a little too much for an everyday color for my bedroom. Having said that I also love red so I know I’d need it in my room somewhere. I chose that Dusty Rose color which is in the family of red. I’d use that color for an accent wall somewhere. An accent wall can certainly date or make your room appear smaller as you chop it up with color so make sure there is one wall that you’d like to have as a feature or focal point in your bedroom.

Ceiling color. Now, this is where I like to update the look of a room. At this point, I really dislike a white ceiling. White ceilings feel dated to me and I never understood why our ceiling needed to be white in the first place. Who made these rules anyway? I have a fairly high, vaulted ceiling so this buttery color would be beautiful! 

Trim color. I would also love to see the white trim color go away. Like the white ceiling, why does trim have to be white? It too breaks up the room and guides your eyes to that point of the flooring which is odd, why do we need to look at the trim? We don’t. If we made the trim the same color as the wall, the wall color would flow right into the space of the flooring without drawing your eye to it. To me, white trim is like framing a room and we don’t need to do that. Let’s minimize, the “stuff” in a room and change its look. The color I have labeled as trim is a lighter version of the wall color, and I’m ok with that. I just think white has too much of a contrast unless your walls are already white or a super-light neutral. Something to ponder.

One more thing I’d like to add about color for the bedroom is this. Who is in the bedroom? You? You and someone else? If there is another person that you share a bedroom with, you’re going to have to consider these colors for BOTH of you since you’ll be living in these hues for a while. The color palette I have here may be considered a bit feminine because of the Dusty Rose. If that’s the case, consider using a darker more muted red or you can change it out to navy, burnt orange, or brown. There are many possibilities!
