Can a Color Expert come to my home? 

Since Covid hit in 2020, I no longer visit residential homes. However, I don’t need to be in your home to get a beautiful color palette. I offer a ZOOM meeting where we can virtually meet, and I can see your home, just as if I was there.

A Color Expert sounds expensive. Can I afford this? 

It’s more affordable to have a Color Expert come to your home and choose the right colors for you the first time than to spend time and money driving back and forth to your local paint store with the wrong colors. I bet you have a few color swatches already painted on your walls. That costs time, money, and frustration picking a color you think is suitable only to come home, paint the sample color on your wall and realize it’s still not the color you want. Prices will vary based on the size of your home and the town in which you live. If you are outside the South Charlotte area, consultation fees may be slightly higher. Please email or call me for details, but for the most part, the consultations are $300 for a home under 3,000 square feet.

What paint companies do you work with?

I use Valspar, Benjamin Moore, and Sherwin Williams. I recommend paint brands that are high quality and that I’ve used in my own home.

What if I just have 1 or 2 rooms that need color? How much will that be?

Basic Color Consultations are $65 and are perfect if you need minimal color advice. For example, if you need color suggestions for one room in your home, I’ll offer up to 4 colors for that space. You can use any of those color suggestions for your two rooms. See the SERVICES tab on top of this blog for details.

What are the popular color trends now?

There has been a run of beautiful coastal colors, blues, and the overuse of the gray trend. If you have a blank canvas to start with – you can have any color scheme under the sun. I like to try to incorporate your existing decor, so your paint scheme matches the furnishings in your home. It would look odd if you had a fantastic color scheme, but it didn’t match your decor. I can provide any color scheme you want, it’s 100% customized for you.

I have a large home (6500 sq.  ft.) with an open floor plan. Will this be a problem?

Open floor plans are my specialty! In some homes, you can see up to 5 rooms from standing at one point in the house. These spaces need to transition well from room to room; otherwise, your home will look like a patchwork quilt. It’s crucial to choose a suitable color scheme for this type of home and have all the undertones be cohesive. You’ll need to email me for a quote on that large home at DecoratingbyDonna@mac.com.

Why do I need a Color Specialist?

I’ve heard a few of my clients say they hired a “Color Consultant” from the local paint store for $50. I’m sure those employees know about color but do they know what colors are right for you? Do they have the experience, training, and certification to provide the knowledge they need to choose what is best for your home? Can they make your color scheme flow from one room to another while incorporating your decor to match? Will they know the right tone or hue of color to use in a room that gets full sun or use a cooler tone in a North facing room? If these questions sound confusing to you, I’m sure that will be challenging for them. Why take a gamble? You work hard for your money. Always remember you get what you pay for. Hire a professional, and you’ll get professional results.

How will I remember what color goes where?

You don’t have to worry about that. I will provide beautiful, easy-to-understand graphics (see below) with all the color information you need, delivered right to your email. It’ll contain the names of the paint colors, the paint company’s name, any notes that the painter will need to know, and I also provide photographs and color placement, so everyone will know exactly where the colors go. It’s very similar to paint by number – it’s that easy!

Do you provide any other Interior Design services?

I can provide other decorating services such as design boards but choose to keep costs at a minimum and specialize in just color design.
