How To Choose Color for A Home in Piper Glen

I love the homes in Piper Glen! They are very large, in an excellent location and are just gorgeous on the inside. As with most of the homes here in South Charlotte, Piper Glen homes also have an open floor plan. With these homes in particular, you have to be EXTREMELY careful when you are choosing color for them. With homes priced over $1,000,000 and this large, this is an undertaking you not want to do twice. This is what I’ve done for my clients in Piper Glen …

As much as I love color, when it comes to choosing color for the homes in Piper Glen, less is more. Let me explain.

I coined the term “reverse decorating” and in a case with homes this large, it’s an excellent idea. What is reverse decorating? Putting it simply, it’s keeping the wall color VERY soft and subtle and brining in color, pattern, texture and interest in the decor such as drapery, upholstery and hardware.

See how this cotton plant look so soft (literally) in its color palette? There are several tones and shades of white here and together, make a very elegant look. You can see soft blues, grays, greens and even a touch of lavender. This my friends is the secret to choosing colors for these lavish homes. Each room or area can be a different color but it has to be super soft and almost non-detectable as you transition from room to room. Now about the reverse decorating.

It’s imperative that these spaces flow. There’s a time and place for dominant color and as far as the Piper Glen homes, it’s all about being subtle.

I love the Barbara Barry line of fabrics by Kravet.

As you walk from room to room, keep in mind that there shouldn’t be any particular element that just hits you in the face. As your eyes travel from floor to ceiling, room to room, you’ll detect luxurious fabrics, subtle color, textures and just an elegant design sense.

DESIGN TIP: Keep in mind that just because your fabric looks luxurious and expensive, it doesn’t have to be. It’s all about choosing the right colors and patterns to achieve the look you want.
